5 Most Affordable Electric Vehicles in Malaysia

Will you net-a electric vehicle in 2024?

When we say affordable, we mean, most affordable electric vehicles. We all know they’re expensive, we here think they’re not actually that great for the environment, nor your driving experience, but alas, they’re popular.

So here are the most affordable electric vehicles you can buy now in 2024. Note that pricing will change in the future, just like the BYD Atto 3 did this year.

1. BYD Atto 3 (2023)

The BYD Atto 3 launched at RM149,800 for the standard but thanks to promotions, there is a rebate of almost RM20,000 right now bringing down the price of the standard variant to RM129,800.

Note that it’s a festive offer only and that it only pertains to 2023 units of the BYD Atto 3. But always remember that if they can offer such heavy discounts, you’ll probably be able to get it at this price again in the future.

2. BYD Dolphin

The second most affordable EV in Malaysia is priced from RM100,530—in the same range as a premium Honda City.

Its literature says that it can go to a range of upto 410km, but as usual, your mileage may vary. The car is also quite small, even though it adopts an SUV styling.

We’d consider this one of the started EVs in Malaysia and perhaps something you’d get as an experiment.

3. Neta V

This one is actually the cheapest EV in Malaysia starting from RM99,300 and RM100,000 sharp on-the-road with insurance.

You can compare the size of the Neta V to a Perodua Myvi, but slightly bigger in width, length, and tallness. It’s also got an SUV styling.

According to the company, it can go about 380km on a full charge. Because of its price, there’s no seat height adjustment and no adjustment for the steering wheel.

There are probably more concessions you’ll have to make, but hey, we’re featuring the cheapest EVs here.

4. Hyundai KONA electric

Yet another electric SUV on the line-up is the Hyundai Kona which has 3 variants with a starting range of only 305km.

The Lite version (the cheapest) comes in at RM156,538, which makes it one of the most expensive ones on this list.

We’ve profiled the Hyundai IONIQ that had a battery replacement that cost more than the car so proceed with caution. South Korean automakers have increased in popularity recently, so there must be a reason for that.

5. Ora Good Cat

Produced by Great Wall Motors, the Ora Good Cat was launched in 2022 and its priced from RM139,800. It has an estimated range of 400km and is yet again, shaped like an SUV.

Local reviewers have lambasted it for its poor UI, but like its brother BYD, is no stranger to discounts.

Last year they had a promotion for an RM20,000 discount! Perhaps that’s the amount of subsidy per car that the Chinese government has released to all of its EV producers.

This car is on the bigger side though being compared to C-segment cars in Malaysia.
