For the first time since its launch in Malaysia in 2018, the Proton X70 2025 finally gets a refresh that is slightly more exciting than the last.
Fans of the Proton X70 will no doubt notice the grille has been evolved to match its siblings the X90 and the S70 and the headlamps are now slimmer with full-LED reflectors.
There’s a slightly tweaked bumper and of course, new wheels.
The Proton X70 2025’s rear remains exactly the same, oddly, but there’s some sorely needed upgrades inside that Malaysians will surely love.
The 12.3-inch infotainment unit finally comes equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a sore spot for many owners of Proton’s latest iteration of rebadged Geely vehicles.

There’s also a futuristic-looking ambient light display on the front passenger side that’s intriguing. Time will tell if it remains a gimmick or heaven-forbid, an annoyance to the front passenger.
We hope you can turn it off at least so that passengers in the cabin can get some shut eye at night without the glare of dancing LED lights.
Another welcome thing we spotted was the physical air conditioning controls and visible drive mode selectors.
Many customers have complained about the difficulty of choosing drive modes in the S70 that “innovates” by hiding the drive mode selector in the touch screen.

Besides that, the cabin remains mostly the same. The speakers in the photographs seem to bear the Proton branding, but we’re not sure that has the pedigree they hope it brings.
Overall, the Proton X70 2025 is a welcomed facelift to an extremely long in the tooth offering that really shook the local market when it launched.
Proton promises that the vehicle will receive upgraded safety features, ADAS Level 2 systems to be precise, and remote start capabilities.
Pricing is yet unknown, but the automaker assures Malaysians that it will be priced competitively with a significant early bird discount.
