12-Year-Old Driver Caught With Young Siblings in Car, Where Are Their Parents?
Have you ever had one of those days where you just wanted to go for a drive and forget your troubles? Well a 12 year old driver was caught doing just that with his father’s Perodua Viva and the boy even brought his siblings out to enjoy the ride. They were 4 and 6 years old.
As reported by The Straits Times, the deeply upsetting news story came from a viral video posted on social media recently.
A woman who noticed the vehicle being driven by children, flagged the car down to admonish the children.
The boy, simply said to “go meet my father” before driving off.
Well, someone did meet the father, the police. As police have taken a statement from the boy’s father who had gone a joy ride around their residential neighbourhood in Puchong, Selangor.
Sepang police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said police were alerted about the video at around 6.30pm on Monday (29 July 2024).
“We have opened investigations under Section 39(1) of the Road Transport Act for underage driving,” he said.
It’s an open secret that children are actively driving motorcycles around illegally but this may be the biggest public case of children breaking the law in this manner.
We can’t rightly judge the reasons why the father was negligent, nor why the 12-year-old was driving the vehicle, but we hope the police are able to resolve this issue quickly and prevent more delinquent behaviour on our already fraught roadways.
