The Proton eMAS 7 Is Finally Here at RM109,800 and a Range of 345km

The Proton eMAS 7 launched by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, is the nation’s first EV. Well, It’s the first EV that’s actually Chinese and rebadged as a Malaysian product.
There will be the usual spiel that locals worked on it or that it was a joint effort but we all know its a rebadged Geely Galaxy E5.
Just as the first Proton Saga was a rebadged Mitsubishi Lancer Fiore, nearly 40 years later, our first EV also has the honour of sharing more than a passing resemblance, this time, with a Chinese car instead of a Japanese one.
All that said, we don’t want to takeaway anything from this achievement by PROTON. How many other countries in the world have their own car brand, much less one that is still comparatively young?
“By collaborating closely with its partner, PROTON has successfully developed a global product that allows us to take a major step towards a sustainable future for Malaysia’s automotive industry.
“Drawing on over 40 years of experience in the local automotive industry, PROTON has the expertise to develop a car from the ground up, from a robust supply chain to comprehensive aftersales support.
“We believe this will be a significant step forward, helping us transition to the next chapter thus reaffirming our commitment to innovation and growth in line with the nation’s vision for a greener, carbon-neutral future.” said Dr. Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.
The 12-in-1 electric drive unit produces 160kW and 320Nm of torque, accelerating the e.MAS 7 from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds while braking distance from 100km/h to a complete halt is achieved in 35 metres.
The Prime version features a 49.52kWh with a WLTP range of 345km, while the Premium variant offers a 60.22kWh battery, extending the range to 410km
There’s 33 storage compartments inside, 16-speaker system, and a 15.4-inch touch screen. The e.MAS 7 Prime and Premium will be priced at RM109,800 and RM123,800 respectively.
Available in five colours: Platinum Silver, Turquoise Green, Slate Grey, Quartz Rose and Lithium White.
With this price, you’re still paying a premium for an EV that you have to still baby unless you live in a place or work at a place with convenient EV charging facilities.
Will you be ordering the Proton eMAS 7 in support of your country? Or will you be waiting for the long-term reviews on this one?
Our two cents? The pink does look fetching.
