Ayala Motors And KIA Philippines Award Gold Medal Olympian Hidilyn Diaz a Brand New SUV
Automologist Kathleen is excited to write about her new idol, the first-ever Filipino Olympic Gold Medalist Hidilyn Diaz.
“WE WON A GOLD, finally! After almost a century of waiting!”
The loud cheers and cries from the whole Philippines were unmistakable as the internet was bombarded with posts and photos about the first-ever Olympic Gold for the Philippines. This ends the country’s 97 years of drought for gold.
The Gold came from the 55kg women’s weightlifting event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hidilyn Diaz came from the poor province of Zamboanga and has actually been competing in the event since 2008. In that first year, she placed 10th and when she competed again in the 2012 London Olympics, she, unfortunately, didn’t finish the lifting. Her weightlifting journey continued in the 2016 Rio Olympics where she bagged the Silver Medal and that didn’t stop her striving for the Gold this 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan. And yes, she made history. She made it!
For the honour and pride she brought to the Philippines and for lifting the spirits of the pandemic-depressed Filipinos, she is now recognized as an ‘Atletang Magiting’ (athlete hero) by the Ayala Foundation. For that, she was awarded a brand new Kia Stonic from Ayala Company Motors and Kia Philippines.
“For her record-making and record-breaking achievement at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Hidilyn Diaz, the first-ever Filipino to win a gold medal at the quadrennial summer games, is considered a modern-day hero,” the Ayala Foundation said in a statement. The organisation said it has been supporting weightlifters, including Diaz, since 2016.
Aside from the KIA SUV, Hidilyn also received P10 Million from the Philippine Government, P3 Million from President Duterte, P10 Million from San Miguel Corporation, P10 Million from Megaworld and P10 Million from Senator Manny Pacquiao, making her an instant millionaire in USD. Plus, a free condominium unit at Eastwood, a lifetime of free travel from Air Asia and a lifetime free petrol from Pheonix Petroleum. I think our sponsor should also give her a lifetime of free X-1R Automotive Products because she deserves no less.
The overwhelming support from the private sector, the government and the whole HD team gave her the strength in every lift she made, and she said she has God along with her all the way.
In the midst of the country’s ongoing fight against the COVID pandemic, there is this one good news to celebrate and a reminder that there is still hope in every situation, no matter how hard it is now.
Salute to all our athletes who continue to give pride and joy to the country!
CONGRATULATIONS, HIDILY DIAZ! You surely put the Philippine mark in the Olympic records.
