Teen Who Track Elon Musk’s Jet On Twitter Now Tracking Russian Oligarchs and Putin
The teenager who famously turned down US$5,000 from Elon Musk to stop tracking his jet is at it again. This time, amidst Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, Jack Sweeney has put his algorithm to work tracking the helicopters and private jets of some of Russia’s richest businessmen. The system automatically publishes the info on the Twitter account “Russian Oligarch Jets” (@RUOligarchJets)

The account follows the whereabouts of the richest man in Russia, Vladimir Potanin, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, and steel magnate Alexander Abramov, among others. The first tweet was only uploaded last Sunday and the account has exploded, quickly amassing over 148,900 followers at the time of writing.
When speaking to Bloomberg, Sweeney said, “The aircraft these oligarchs have are absolutely crazy. Their planes are huge compared to other jets” and pointed out that these wealthy Russians preferred travelling in commercial-sized aircraft instead of smaller jets.
Sweeney, who is still a college student, created another account to track Putin but warned that it might not be accurate as there is limited flight data on the Russian president’s aircraft.

The USA and other countries had announced a raft of sanctions on these Russian billionaires, who are believed to have a significant influence on Putin, to put pressure on the Kremlin to stop the war. Since the announcement, the oligarchs have been moving their megayachts toward Montenegro and the Maldives to prevent them from being seized. Poor them.
