Facebook user Jc Jess took to Facebook recently to air her grievances about her Chery Omoda brake that stop functioning after she had brought to the service centre precisely for her brakes.

The emotionally distraught woman in the video explained that the brakes failed in the middle of the highway and it could have cost her life if she had been driving fast.

The Omoda 5, made by Chinese company Chery, had reportedly had multiple issues with the brakes since the Facebook user brought the car home and according to the video the car was only about 2 months old.

The video has been seen more than 1.5 million times at the time of writing.

Following her video, Chery has released a statement to address the issue and a courtesy car has been sent to the user. You may read the statement below in full:

Chery Malaysia received a complaint by a customer involving her OMODA 5, we would like to assure our customers and the public that we are taking this matter very seriously.

The safety of our customers is our utmost priority. We have been in contact with the customer involved since Saturday (6 April 2024) to address her concern and subsequently, a courtesy vehicle has been offered to her.

weInterestingly, a Malaysian automotive publication awarded the OMODA 5 an Editors’ Choice Awards 2023 in the Best Mid-size Crossover/SUV category.

Well, they’re lucky they didn’t award the SUV for reliability or safety.

As usual, calls for the adoption of the lemon law in Malaysia arose again after the incident but the government has remained mum on the issue.
