2016’s Six Most Expensive Cars in the World not meant for Commoners Like Us
It is already December and soon we will say hello to 2017. Before the dawn of the New Year, Automologist Lee thinks that now is the best time to look back on 2016 and the most expensive cars featured in the past year.
Extravagant cars are about so much than just transportation. They are extremely fine pieces of work targeting the top 1%, who can afford the exorbitant prices and superior craftsmanship.
For the rest of us, we’d best just admire these rides from afar and tell ourselves: “Money can’t buy happiness”.
1.Pagani Huayra BC – US$2.6 million
It is a beast roaring on the road in the name of the god Huayra, the Incan god of winds. Pagani debuted the lighter Huayra BC at the Geneva Motor Show this year. Although it is fitted with an enormous active rear spoiler, a wider rear track, and new side skirts, it still kept the featherweight thanks to the use of carbon fibre and other lightweight materials.

2. Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio – US$3 million
At a ‘mere’ US$3 million, the Ferrari Sergio is not the most expensive car. However, it is one of the rarest as only six were ever made. Crafted by Italian car design firm, Pininfarina, the Sergio is a light-weighted Ferrari 458 Spider with a completely new body and interior. Ferrari handpicked each of the six owners, making it a rare invite-only vehicle.

3. Limited Edition Bugatti Veyron by Mansory Vivere – US$3.4 million
This mighty Bugatti Veyron augmented by Germany car modification firm, Mansory, is not just one of the most expensive cars in the world; it’s also one of the fastest. With a stunning carbon fibre body, a new spoiler package, upgraded LED lights, a revamped cabin, and a redesigned front grille, the Veyron is not just a vehicle but a work of art too.

4. W Motors Lykan Hypersport – US$3.4 million
Once featured in the blockbuster Fast & Furious 7, the Hypersport drew so much attention with it futuristic appearance. With jewel-encrusted headlights, scissor doors, and a sci-fi-like interior, it seems like a product of the future. The Abu Dhabi police force has drafted it for patrol duty, though it’s mainly for marketing purpose.

5. Lamborghini Veneno – US$4.5 million
‘Poison’ is the meaning of the Spanish word ‘Veneno’. Lamborghini built it to celebrate its 50th birthday. The car is absolutely gorgeous from every angle and just doesn’t seem real. The price is of course as remarkable as it looks.

6. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita – US$4.8 million
If you like something shiny, this ride coated in diamonds would suit your appetite. The Swedish car manufacturer applied its new exterior finish, called the Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave, which involves coating carbon fibre with a diamond dust-impregnated resin.
