Lifestyle Tech brand XIAOMI Unveils their Electric Car, the SU7

It is poised to take on the Tesla Model S and the Porche Taycan Turbo

Best-known for making affordable lifestyle tech products, Xiaomi has unveiled its first vehicle, an EV, the XIAOMI SU7.

Not only is this their first vehicle, they have plans to become the top five global carmaker in the next 15 to 20 years.

China is currently the world’s largest automotive and EV market with nearly 60% of the world’s total so competition is steep.

In the unveiling event, Xiaomi took clear shots at the Porche Taycan Turbo and even showed the stats of the car in a side-by-side comparison.

There will be two variants of the car, the flagship XIAOMI SU7 Max that has a range of 800km and the starting variant with a range of 668km.

Xiaomi CEO was quoted as saying, “Our goal is to build a vehicle that matches up to Porsche and Tesla, a dream car for the new era of the automobile industry.”

The SU7 will also be joining the autonomous vehicle bandwagon and the company has committed 1,000 people to the task and has invested 4.7 billion yuan (USD658million) in the technology.

They plan to test its autonomous capabilities in 100 cities across China by the end of 2024.

For some reference, Xiaomi not only makes smartphones, they also make TVs, kitchen appliances, lights, electric toothbrushes, and shavers.
