X-1R Philippines Sends “Hope” to Taal Volcano Eruption Evacuees
“No act of KINDNESS, no matter how small, is ever WASTED”.
On January 29th, X-1R Philippines, together with The Kindness and Creativity Caravan (TKCC), in cooperation with the local government of Mabini, Batangas, dispatched help to fellow Filipinos who are currently displaced by the Taal Volcano Eruption.
On January 12th, the Taal Volcano erupted and spewed sulfuric materials some 12,000-15,000 feet in the air, causing mass evacuation and panic, especially among those who were living in a 20-kilometer radius. Even though the seismic activity of the volcano has already lowered from Alert Level 4 to 3, many families are still being housed in a covered sports court turned evacuation center. Our sponsor, X-1R, was quick to volunteer with an initiative to help these families.
The primary aim of the caravan was to support those affected by providing some form of creative entertainment, to lift up their spirits in this distressing time. Among the activities organized were a mini art workshop, a virtual reality experience and Zumba classes. Free haircut was offered by Felipe and Sons.
Many local and private organizations have been sending relief goods to the families; X-1R focused on providing sanitary necessities like diapers, wipes, alcohol, sanitary napkins and some medical supplies that they can use while they are still housed in the evacuation center.
The X-1R Philippine Team found it to have been a truly touching and heart-warming experience for them to be part of this initiative. One of them shared with us: ‘It was so fulfilling to see them walk returning to their temporary shelters with excitement and hope as they brought their bags of personal hygiene goods along with them. More than the goods, help and entertainment they received, their most important wish is for Taal Volcano to calm down so they can be back to normal life. Indeed, the true spirit of “Filipino Bayanihan” still works.’
