There’s an Official Rooftop Tent For Your Porsche. Yup.
You wouldn’t think that the words “Porsche” and “camping” go together, but apparently the automaker thinks they do. Porsche is now offering a rooftop tent system that goes on the Macan and Cayenne, which makes some sense, and the Panamera, Taycan and 911, which makes less sense.
Perhaps it is the increasing number of road-tripping social media influencers that inspired this new offering; among them, a few have chosen a Porsche as their travelling wheels, like this Instagrammer who installed a roof tent on his 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S and ventures off-road with it even though it means puncturing a tyre on occasion.

The official tent by Porsche is a two-person shelter with two side windows and a roof window when extended. The floor surface spans 210 x 130 cm with a polyfoam mattress integrated into it. The tent walls are made of a breathable cotton blend yet apparently can withstand wetter weather too.
Erecting it requires some elbow grease (no button for this, sorry). After unlocking the latches, you’d have to lift the hardcase with the aid of two gas pressure shock absorbers, pull down the telescopic ladder and foot area, and then use the four poles to make the tent taut.
The marketing video for the Porsche Roof Tent stars some very young, very hip-looking people, which we didn’t know were their target customers:
The rooftop tent sells for €4,980. Before you call your dealer to place your order, there is a weight limit. The maximum load for when the vehicle is stationary is 190 kg for vehicles with roof rails and approximately 140 kg for those without, which is good for two adults and not much luggage nor camping gear.
Having that added weight on top also brings the vehicle top speed down to 130kph, which is a real bummer. But hey, if you are into the whole glamping thing, have at it…
