Tesla Selling Cat Bed in China…Trouble Is, Looks A Little Fur-Milliar

Warning: Some assembly required.

Elon Musk and Tesla seem determined to follow their very own and exceedingly weird path. On the Tesla site in China, you can now purchase a Cybertruck-inspired cat box. Described as “Cybertruck-inspired Corrugated Cat Nest” it is made of moisture-resistant cardboard and can take about 15 kilos – that is one hefty kitty – and is supposed to be inspired by the design of the company’s soon to be launched Cybertruck.

Musk, although famed for selling cars and building rockets, is no stranger to selling some other quirkier merchandise. For instance, there are his Teslaquilla in a lightning-shaped bottle and his flame throwers and his Cybertruck-shaped dog whistle. Heck, he even sold red satin shorts with the letters S3XY across the back as a jibe at Tesla short-sellers (stock brokers). And let us not forget the time his Boring Company sold perfume called “Burnt Hair” described as “the essence of repugnant desire”, whatever that is.

Bad press generally follows Musk and Tesla wherever they venture. This one looks like it is going to be no different. Local manufacturer, Hulumao, claims that this may well be a case of “cat burglary” as the Tesla offering looks almost identical to one that they have been selling. In a Tweet, a spokeperson for Hulumao said:

“Dear Mr. Elon Musk, although we do not know each other, very thank you for promoting our product with the Tesla logo on it and selling it in China.”

Hulumao was founded in 2016 by Hsiao Shih Chang and sells a number of different cat beds. The one that looks very similar to the Tesla version even won a design award in 2017. This will all be a bit of a storm in the kitty-litter for Tesla and I am damn sure will not stop any of the companies associated with Mr Musk from producing unconventional products in the future.
