Suzuki Jimny – an Icon Returns to Malaysia
Ever since the 1970s, the Suzuki Jimny has garnered a cult-like following. With a retro funky design that gives the driver a ‘you-can-go-anywhere’ attitude, the fully imported model from the Land of the Rising Sun is now here on Malaysian shores.
Naza Eastern Motors is the local brand custodian of this iconic model, which has a multitude of fans all over the world. Small yet powerful, its 1.5-litre mill produces 100hp at 6,000rpm and 130Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, the drive is set to all an ALLGRIP PRO 4WD system and a 4-speed auto gearbox built on a ladder-frame chassis.
This SUV wants you to go off the beaten path and so it does not come with powered seats, electronic parking brake, parking sensors or cameras. It’s all ol’ skool as you also get a key (yup, no start/stop button).
However, you do get LED projector headlights, digital air-conditioning controls, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and a 7” touchscreen infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth telephone and audio functions. There are 2 airbags, ABS and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) whereby engine torque and brakes are automatically adjusted to suppress wheel slip and help you stay in control during slippery road conditions.
And yea, you also get Brake LSD Traction Control, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control. With its muscular wheel arches, the Jimny looks bold and buff. And even for parents, there are ISOFIX car seat mounts. If little ones are not on the trip and you plan on an outdoor rendezvous, the rear seats can be folded down, giving you more than enough storage space.
