Why, Oh Why Are Porsche Headlights Being Stolen?

There is a new craze going around Europe, the theft of Porsche headlights. Pictured above is the result of one such theft (more to follow below) where some enterprising folk went to town on this once beautiful Porsche 911 Taycan Tourismo just to get to its head lights. The end result is one absolutely ruined Porsche.

Now back in the days of the Beastie Boys, we sort of got used to seeing Volkswagen badges around the neck of some yobo’s neck instead of on the bonnet of a VW car. There has also been news mostly from the USA where thieves steal catalytic converters for the scrap value of the item. But why, oh why are thieves taking the headlights, are they being sold on some back street market?

It is not just the little Porsches that are getting things nicked.

In this case, the reason for the theft is not to resell the lights. The thieves are stealing them for growing their weed. It turns out that Porsche headlights are really easy to remove AND are ideal for growing plants indoors, where most of Europe’s marijuana crops are grown.

The newer Porsche head lights, and in particular the newest HD Matrix LED lamps, are a high intensity discharge lamps that use less electricity and emit more heat. In addition, these headlights produce a better quality of light for the plants to grow in.

So the thieves are now targeting Porsche headlights to increase the yield of their crops even if that means vandalising one of the world’s most beautiful cars.
