Modern Day Robin Hoods Hack Petrol Station and Lower Pump Prices

In an act a little reminiscent of the folklore Robin Hood, who stole from the rich and gave to the poor, two dudes from Virginia Beach, which is in Virginia, US of A, have been arrested for accessing the computer of a local gas station and lowering the prices of petrol and diesel at the pump. The information was then circulated to the local community who availed themselves of the cheaper gas the next day.

According to a press release from the Sheriff of Nottingham, sorry, the local Virginia Beach Police Department, “Devices were being used to illegally access gas pumps via an app, where individuals could pump gas at a discounted rate. This was then advertised on social media. It has been determined that thousands of dollars of gas was stolen from the business over the course of several days.”

As of now, only two individuals who allegedly inserted the software into the gas station have been arrested. The drivers who lined up at the station to get the cheap gas for now have not been arrested, even though they knew that they were acting illegally. Most of the local community are not even upset about the duo’s escapade. One local wag wrote a comment on the city police department’s Facebook page that stated “First of all praise, be to those boys. They are helping their community. Gas prices are making it difficult for people to get to and from work. These boys are a-ok in my book.”
