The video was first shared on Threads and has since gained national attention as a manhunt is ongoing for the owner for the husband of the victim.
Johor Baru (South) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the case occurred at the traffic light intersection on Jalan Tebrau near Columbia Asia Hospital yesterday.
He said a viral video captured a white Toyota Vios, owned by a woman, 21, being doused with petrol and set on fire by a man, 25.
“We believe the suspect is the victim’s husband.
“The suspect was unhappy with the victim following a domestic dispute.”
He added that the victim filed a report at 1.33am at the Majidee police station.
Raub said CCTV footage showed that at 10.20pm, the suspect blocked the victim’s vehicle before dousing it with petrol.
“The suspect set the vehicle on fire and fled in a Toyota Vellfire. The estimated damage is RM90,000.”
