Keyless entry technology has been around since 1998 when Mercedes-Benz first introduced it in the W220 S-Class.
Before that, Siemens started developing the technology in 1995 and today, this once magical feature of the S-Class can be found in most car brands from the entry-level Honda City to the futuristic Tesla.
But what happens when the key fob runs out of battery? What can you do to unlock your car door?
Well, luckily for us, the answer is in the key fob.

In the Honda’s key fob you simply need to unlock the physical key and locate the key hole in your car as usual. It may be hidden under some plastic or rubber, but all the manual locks are still there.
How do you use the push start button without batteries?

Once you’re in your car, just use the key fob to press the push start button and your car should start as usual.
While the battery in your fob may be dead the mechanism to start your car is still in the fob and if it’s close enough to the button it will still allow the car to start.
Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to check your key fob’s battery health. You need at least a multimeter and a basic understanding of voltages to be able to read the charge.
If the key fob needs a few knocks to unlock the car door just change the batteries and save yourself a panic attack.
