UK Parliament: Push Back Against Fake EV News. What Fake News?

fake ev news

In a report, the Lords Climate Change Committee has urged the UK government to curb the spread of “fake EV news”.

To this we say, what fake news?

You may read the report here, but the gist of it is that misinformation on EVs have lowered the confidence of buyers and with the UK government investing a further £88 million recently into the space, it’s not hard to see why EV adoption is a big deal for them.

Well, let’s address these so-called “misconceptions and mistruths” according to the report.

For one, the report calls out that the fire risk of EVs have been blown out of proportion by the media.

To that we say, here’s a story about an EV catching fire due to sea water, here’s a story about Rivian vans burning down, this is a story about the hospital banning EVs from parking close by due to risk of fire, and here’s a sad one about a motorcycle electric battery burning a man in a lift.

There was also a short bit about the issue that EV car brands are lying about range in their EVs.

Well, we recently compiled a list of lies, half-truths and/or inaccuracies by a certain megalomaniacal owner of a leading EV brand.

We the consumer have been lied to about the safety of our EVs, the range, and even its so-called environmental benefits.

Maybe instead of blaming the low EV sales on the media, the government can take a good hard look at why consumers are not adopting EVs at the rate they hope.

Maybe we just want reasonable things, like buttons in our cars, a decent way to fuel up that doesn’t take forever, and maybe we don’t want to pay a literal arm and leg to own the latest fridge on wheels.
