Malaysia Ranked 2nd Most Stressful Country To Get A Driving License In
According to Zutobi, an online driver’s learning platform, Malaysia is tied with Greece as the second most stressful country to get a driving license in.
Poland takes first place while Greece is in third. The least stressful place to learn to drive? Ironically, Singapore.
You’d think a country with regulations for everything from where you can chew gum to what cars you can buy would be stricter on driving permits.
Zutobi pulled data from several international indexes, including the World Bank, to rank 35 countries on four factors: congestion, road traffic deaths, registered vehicles, and road quality score.
According to Zutobi, Malaysia’s “extensive road network and high vehicle density lead to significant traffic congestion and a high rate of road traffic deaths, making it tough for learner drivers”.
According to Zutobi, while Malaysia has one of the most comprehensive road networks in Asia, it correlates with a high accident rate, having 23 road traffic deaths per 100,000 people, as per the World Bank.
The platform rated the quality of Malaysian roads at 5.3 out of 10, citing the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report published in 2020.
It added that the congestion on the roads further complicates the driving experience.
Now if a driving license is so stressful to get, shouldn’t we have better, safer drivers in Malaysia overall? Instead, we’re also leading in terms of car accidents in Southeast Asia.
