We have cars upon cars, upon cars, upon…

According to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), Malaysia ranks 2nd in Asia for the highest car ownership rate from 2015 to 2020!

While not exactly surprising, the fact that we beat out rivals like Indonesia who have a bigger landmass is quite surprising.

The finding is based on data from OICA, which releases car ownership data in the Asian continent calculated from the number of registered cars per 1000 people, including both passenger and commercial vehicles.

Japan tops the list with 612 vehicles per capita while Syria takes 3rd place at 472 vehicles.

Concurrently, the New Straits Times reported recently that cars outnumber people in Malaysia: 32.6 million people versus 33.3 million cars.

If you’d like to know the best-selling cars in the world we have that covered and we also have the list of best-selling cars in Malaysia for you to read next.
