The top 3 best-selling vehicles in 2023 around the globe has pretty much been confirmed by JATO Dynamics, a leading automotive business intelligence firm, and the results are kind of surprising.
While some markets have not revealed sales figures, JATO is confident in crowning the Tesla Model Y as the best-selling vehicle in 2023 with 1.23 million units sold between January to December 2023.
Even more impressive is that the Model Y saw a 64% increase in sales year on year. In 2022 the Model Y was in 3rd place at 747,500 models sold which was itself a 91% increase in sales year on year.
Though we remain skeptical that EVs are the future, the sales figures show that, in Tesla’s case at least, EVs are popular. Well, what about the other 2 in 2nd and 3rd place?
Top 3 Best-selling Vehicles in 2023
Toyota has been dethroned as the Toyota RAV4 was previously the top-selling car in 2022 at 1.01 million vehicles sold in 2023 while the Corolla similarly slipped one place downwards to third from 2nd in 2022.
That said, in terms of total volume of cars sold, the EV maker has not surpassed traditional ICE vehicle sales.
In 2022, Toyota’s models held five spots in the top 10 best-selling cars list so we wouldn’t discount them yet.
Time will tell if the Japanese automaker can claw its way back up the charts—perhaps with a hydrogen car?
