X-1R Made it Happen: A Sea of Alfa Romeos at the 2018 Spettacolo in Victoria, Australia.
It’s been said: “If you haven’t driven an Alfa, you haven’t driven a car”. Such a strong statement. But indeed, owners of these exotic beauties look after them as their MOST prized possession (note emphasis on “most”).
The Alfa Romeo Owners Club of Australia (AROCA) is one of the largest single marque clubs in Australia, with over 4,000 members nationally and having divisions in all States and Territories, except Tasmania and Northern Territory. It hosts a wide range of activities, competition and social events that are catered for families. There are also technical groups that hold meetings and work on projects that interest the Alfisti.
The AROCA Vic club hosts an annual Spettacolo Show’n Shine and Concorso event. This year brought almost 400 Alfas, from pre- to post-war makes and up to the latest models, to the beautiful grounds of Wesley College in Victoria, on the 2nd of December 2018. Our very own sponsor, X-1R, was also the main sponsor of the Spettacolo.
The morning ushered in dark rain clouds and strong wind. By mid-morning, though, the weather cleared and the hundreds of classic car owners had their stunning cars all lined up ready for the Concorso judging.
By 2.00pm, the judging was completed and the presentation of 30 different awards began.
Ray Graham, representing X-1R, the event’s main sponsor, was tasked with the 30 category presentations; prizes included X-1R’s Engine Treatment, Octane Booster and Windscreen Sun Shade. The smiles on the faces of the winners were as bright as the polished chrome finishes on their cars.
To conclude, we throw in a quote by Henry Ford: “Every time I see an Alfa Romeo pass by, I lift my hat”
