Somewhere on the Bugatti website, you’ll read: “The CHIRON is the fastest, most powerful, and exclusive production super sports car in BUGATTI’s history.”

A Chiron owner decided to show that the machine can scorch that fast by doing 420km/h on the 5.15-km Johnny Böhmer Proving Grounds runway at Space Florida’s Shuttle Landing Facility.

It is the same runway where Nasa’s space shuttles used to land. (Yes, that space agency which our sponsor, X-1R, supplies its products to.)

The runway is an engineering marvel in itself and is one of the flattest all-concrete surface runways in the world. NASA designed and created the runway with only a 1/4-inch difference from end to end. At 3.2 miles long and 300 feet wide, it is one of the longest and widest runways in the United States.

The successor to the Veyron, the Chiron is an all-wheel drive with a mid-mounted W16 8.0-litre quad-turbo engine that flaunts an astonishing 1,500hp and 1,600Nm of torque!
