The Best Getaway Vehicle Ever?

Recently released footage by the police shows a pharmacy in Dagenham, East London, being burgled, with the help of possibly the best getaway vehicle ever.

The CCTV footage shows two men prying open the shutters with a metal bar and leaving with a cash till from the premise. One of them lugged the till across the sidewalk and handed it to a member of the gang waiting on the getaway vehicle, which then tore out of there as fast as it could.

You might imagine the vehicle to be, say, a MINI, like the one used in the Italian Job, but the actual vehicle is much more underpowered and way, WAY slower than that. Have a look:

Now, the UK’s Highway Code say that Class 2 mobility scooters, designed for pavement use, has an upper limit of 4mph, whereas Class 3 ones, built for pavement and road, have an upper limit of 8mph. They would definitely NOT outstrip even the most unfit of Bobbies.

The fastest mobility scooter on record, however, and this is verified by none other than the Guinness World Records, achieved a speed of almost 108mph. This particular vehicle did have the advantage of being outfitted with the engine from a Suzuki 600cc bandit when it set the record in 2014.

Of course the crime took place in the wee hours of the morning and there was no one around to chase them down, so a run-of-the-mill mobility scooter played the role of getaway car well enough. In fact, the last person you’d suspect of wrongdoing is the fella on the mobility scooter, which is why we think this could be the best getaway car EVER.
