Crazy Russians Turn a Bentley into a Tank!
Automologist MAC shares one of his latest finds on the World Weird Web.
If you ever trawl the internet, you are probably used to seeing some pretty bizarre videos coming from Russia. I think, though, that this one is probably one of the most seriously WTF moments I have had for a while.
This is called Ultratank and is basically a Bentley Continental GT that rides on caterpillar tracks, which are what us old folk call tank tracks. At this point, though, I have to give them some credit as the machine actually does work. Oh, and let’s face it, Ultratank is a pretty good name for it as well.
I am not sure what it is that inspired these whacky vodka consumers to do this to a perfectly good vehicle, but they did. Although, it would seem there is still some work to be done. They freely admit they haven’t solved the problem of loosing a tread during hard cornering due to a lack of tension in the treads. Putting a tread back on is a pretty time-consuming process as well.
I, for one, would also like to point out that they haven’t seemed to consider the need for doors as of yet, which of course would keep the dust and dirt out of the cabin. Doors would also make the vehicle a little more useable in the artic winters experienced in Russia as well.
The team is apparently working on getting the vehicle up to 100 kph, which may be a challenge as it currently tops out at about 50 kph. This could be a good thing as currently the brakes do not work. The builders don’t think that this is a problem though…How much vodka have they drunk?
