In an amazing turn of events in Port St Lucie Florida, a motorist involved in a hit-and-run accident was reported to the local Sheriff’s office by her very own car. If you are a sceptic about the ever increasing amount of technology in your car, you may not be surprised that Cathy Bernstein, a 57-year-old lady in the USA, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and is currently on bail of US$3750…and all because of the safety feature in her own car.

The evidence.
Apparently, Mrs Bernstein had hit the back of a silver-coloured Dodge Caravan with sufficient force from her Ford Focus to put the female driver of the Dodge into the local hospital, but had then driven off without stopping. Unfortunately for Mrs Bernstein, her car had other ideas as it is equipped with an emergency sync system that placed a call to the local Sheriff’s office, who then called her in the very same car that had been in the accident to verify the extent of the accident and if she required assistance.

Mrs Bernstein, probably looking for a new car.
We can imagine that much to Mrs Bernstein’s surprise, the Police Operator came on the line to ask her about the crash and, in the heat of the moment, she had denied being involved in any accident, even after the operator had stated that the car wouldn’t tell them that there had been an accident if there hadn’t.

Later, police officers investigating the hit-and-run accident took the time to visit Mrs Bernstein’s home where they found the damaged Ford Focus still with the same silver paint in the dented portion and a deployed airbag inside. When confronted, Mrs Bernstein did admit to the accident with the Dodge but, in her defence, said that she was fleeing an earlier accident when she hit the Dodge.
