The new kid on the block is already outdoing the likes of BMW M3, Mercedes-AMG C63 and Cadillac ATS-V, as its maker intended it to do. Alfa Romeo has revealed more about its latest model, the top-of-the-range Giulia, the Quadrifoglio Verde.

A 2.9-litre V6, built by Ferrari, powers the car (early erroneous reports said it has a 3.0-litre displacement), and uses turbocharge to drive it to a peak of 510hp and 442 lb-ft. of torque. The powerplant pushes the Giulia Quadrifoglio from zero to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph.

Alfa Romeo also proudly announced that the car lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 39 seconds, setting the record for a saloon and beating the BMW M4 by 13 seconds.

The basic version will set you back €79,000 in Italy, with sales about to start in the last quarter of the year. Orders began after the Frankfurt Motor Show for the top-of-the-range variant, which comes with carbon brakes and superlight carbon fibre seats, for €95,000.
